The idea of bringing your whole self to work and sharing your authentic self with your colleagues may seem scary. It can even be a bit confusing to understand exactly what that means. But taking steps to bring your whole self to work will help you to enjoy a fuller and more productive work life. And by doing so, we can all contribute to an inclusive workplace culture in which everyone feels supported to be their true selves.
This course will help you to describe what authenticity in the workplace is (and what it isn’t!) and why people struggle with it so much. It will explain the benefits of bringing your whole self to work and show you some handy techniques designed to help you be your authentic self in the workplace.
The idea of being authentically you in the workplace might feel intimidating, or even unprofessional. But what if being yourself at work were actually a way to improve your overall well-being and your performance?
Hiding a part of yourself is exhausting. Just imagine what you could do with that energy, if it was yours to use as you pleased. Developing authentic connections and relationships at work can be beneficial for you and the organisation you work for. And you could help your colleagues to feel able to be themselves at work as well.
Figuring out exactly what authenticity in the workplace is all about is the first part of learning to bring your whole self to work. We knew we needed to use a real example of a situation where folks couldn’t be themselves while working as a starting point. So, we settled on using the famous literary powerhouse the Brontë sisters, who had to publish their work under the names of 3 fictitious brothers, due to prejudices against women publishing work at the time. This allowed us to show that even though we’ve come a long way since those days, there are still many of us that struggle to bring our whole selves to work.
This course combines gorgeous, engaging animation with blended learning designed to challenge and develop the learner’s existing understanding of how to be authentic in the workplace. We’ve included some useful tips to help learners bring their whole self to work and support their colleagues to do the same. There are also downloadable, takeaway tasks for learners to complete in their own time. These are a combination of reflective and active tasks, to help consolidate and develop learning so learners can put it to use in their lives.
Everyone has the right to learn and learner need can vary demanding on environment or disabilities. This course comes with transcripts so people have text options for an media, subtitles for all videos and is screen reader friendly with alternative text.
