CDM regulation

If you have any role in the construction industry, you need to know how the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM regulations) need to be applied. This includes any and every kind of project: new builds, demolition, refurbishment, extensions, conversions, repair and maintenance. Even if you just make the tea for the grafters, it’d be useful to know this stuff. Understanding and implementing the CDM regulations has far-reaching consequences, and has an integral role in keeping everyone safe on site.

What you will learn

This course defines the basics of the CDM regulations and how they affect different dutyholder roles (clients, designers, contractors and workers). As well as taking you through the 3 main documents required for CDM regulations compliance (the pre-construction information, the construction phase plan, and the health and safety file), it also provides information on common and particular health and safety risks associated with construction

About this course

Remember the days in your youth when you’d build brightly-coloured brick houses? Whilst those experiences might have stood you in good stead for your future career, modern construction is a little more complicated. That probably goes without saying, and the same is true of the fact that construction projects can be dangerous, and that procedures and working practices need to be regulated. No matter what your role is in the project, you have legal duties under the CDM regulations, and this course will help you understand what they are. Handy, right?

Engaging the learner

When we set about planning this course, we quickly realised it was going to be a “major development” – to borrow a construction industry term. The CDM regulations is a huge topic not only in terms of scope, but also in terms of importance. It is the very foundation of industry compliance, and yet many people involved in construction are a little fuzzy on the details. The challenge for us was how to make things nice and clear, and to give a slightly bland subject a bit of e-learning sizzle.

With input from subject matter experts, our script development team collaborated with our instructional design team to establish a solid framework: interactive sections delivering core information, supported by animated video sections with a relatable case study storyline. Remember, all this comes under the roof of iOSH approval: with 3 separate quizzes, learners are given a proper and thorough assessment.

Piece of mind with testing

This course also has an assessment at the end which allows learners to test their understanding and helps businesses demonstrate a level of competence in the topic.

With a bank of questions learners will get randomised assessments which means if people do fail, they aren't faced with the same quiz again; after all, you want to test learners knowledge and not their ability to remember the right button to press second time around.

Accessibility

Accessibility

Everyone has the right to learn and learner need can vary demanding on environment or disabilities. This course comes with transcripts so people have text options for an media, subtitles for all videos and is screen reader friendly with alternative text.

We take a number of steps to ensure visuals and navigation is easy for your people. For more information on the steps we take for accessibility check out how we make out courses.
