Behavioural Change (soft skills)

Unconscious Bias

Consciously, your brain can process 40 pieces of information per second, and there’s a heck of a lot more going on in the background. Your brain is pretty brilliant, but every now and again it takes shortcuts. Well, you, would, wouldn’t you? Thanks to a combination of your culture, upbringing & environment, we all have unconscious biases – our brain makes decisions for us, without us even realising. That might be hiring someone because of their gender, or giving a project to a friend rather than someone better suited to it. It’s not your fault – we are all susceptible to this. But you do need to learn how to keep unconscious bias in check, and that’s what this course will help with.

Learning outcomes:
  • Recognize how to overcome unconscious bias
  • Explain where unconscious biases come from
  • Identify the effects of unconscious bias in the workplace

This online training course explains what unconscious bias is, and where it comes from. It’s something all of us should try to understand because sometimes we are unwilling or unable to acknowledge and address it. Unconscious biases can have a negative impact on an organization’s working environment. To overcome unconscious bias, we must recognize the symptoms, and challenge them. It’s a key part of diversity & inclusion management training.
This is a course for all of us. Everyone should take unconscious bias seriously in the interest of fairness for all. It’s an essential skill to learn because the consequences of ignoring your bias may have a detrimental effect on somebody’s life, not to mention your team and the wider business.
