Specific Learning Needs in Mathematics, Including Dyscalculia
This course is designed to be school-specific content. Many students may find maths challenging. But some children experience pronounced and persistent difficulty with mathematics. These students may have a specific learning difficulty (SpLD) in maths, such as dyscalculia. If you notice that a child finds maths more challenging than their peers, it’s essential to refer them for assessment. This SEND course will help you identify their learning needs.
Learning outcomes:
- Recognise the characteristics of specific learning difficulties in mathematics, including dyscalculia, and identify when students may need specialist assessment
- Identify targeted teaching strategies to support students with persistent maths difficulties
Has a pupil received a dyscalculia diagnosis, or have you spotted what you believe are signs of dyscalculia? This school-specific course will help you understand the characteristics of specific learning difficulties in maths, including dyscalculia. Empowering students with dyscalculia to learn alongside their peers will help you contribute to an inclusive learning environment.
Although designed primarily for teaching staff, this course can be taken by anyone who works with children in any capacity.
