Control of Contractors

As an employer, you have a duty to take every reasonable precaution to ensure the health and safety of contractors working for you. Treat this course as part of your business contingency plan to protect yourself, your business, and your workers from harm. This training is especially relevant to the construction industry, but it provides essential information for any business which uses contractors (and a ‘contractor’ is anyone you hire to do work for you who is not an employee).

What you will learn

This course describes how health and safety law applies to contract work, and guides you through the steps to take to ensure contractors are not exposed to unnecessary risks. This starts with identifying all the aspects of the work the contractor is expected to do. You’ll learn what kinds of questions you need to ask candidates in the interview process for selecting a suitable contractor, and the training also covers risk assessments and tips for managing contractors more effectively.

About this course

Does your business work with contractors? While they might follow a slightly different set of rules, their health and safety is just as important as that of company employees, so you need to protect it. Before hiring a contractor, you need to verify that they have the proper training and expertise to carry out the job that needs to be done. And before you set contractors to work, you must be sure you’re taking the right measures to avoid or mitigate any risks they might be exposed to.

Engaging the learner

We knew from the outset we’d need to go the extra mile with this course. It’s a big topic, and we wanted to deliver training that surpasses the standards required for approval by IOSH, the worlds’ biggest H&S organization. We took input from industry experts to make sure we covered all the key learning points – but while it’s packed with information, that doesn’t mean the course has to be difficult to swallow!

We used a friendly theme (Rob the Builder) which we thought learners would appreciate and sprinkled in some humour to make the learning more digestible. The animation is top notch, and we’re delighted with the result overall. You’ll be tested along the way with interactive knowledge checks, and assessed at the end with a bank of rotating quiz questions to ensure that you remember what you’ve learned.

Peace of mind with testing

Peace of mind with testing

This course also has an assessment at the end which allows learners to test their understanding and helps businesses demonstrate a level of competence in the topic.

With a bank of questions learners will get randomised assessments which means if people do fail the assessment, they aren't faced with the same quiz again; after all you want to test learners knowledge and not their ability to remember the right button to press second time around.
