Effective Decision Making

Effective Decision Making

Learning how best to make effective decisions can help to enhance your career as well as improve your personal life. Understanding the consequences of your decisions and the reasoning behind them will force you to give them proper consideration and help you remove doubt. If you’re in a position of authority, or simply someone who is indecisive, looking to improve your skills and climb the ladder of success, you’ll benefit from this course.

What you will learn

This course looks at the key factors that go into making a decision - reasoning and subconscious intuition, or gut feeling - which will help you understand exactly how the process works. It explains how to apply reason and intuition in your decision making, and ways to overcome problems that might affect your decision making. Doing so will help guide you towards making the right decision every time.

About this course

“Heads or tails?”
Leaving your decisions to chance may work for trivial matters; what takeaway to have for dinner, what boxset to binge on next, or which trashy novel you should take on your holiday. But you wouldn’t flip a coin for those ‘important’ decisions, like which subjects you should study in university, or whether you should get married. So, just how do you make those types of big decisions?

Well, it all comes down to a combination of two things: Reasoning - using the facts available to guide your decision, and intuition - which is often called your ‘gut feeling’. Applying them evenly can help guide your decision making in an effective way, and that’s what this short course covers. Result = potential career boost + happier life. You know it makes sense.

Engaging the learner

Decisions, decisions. When creating this course, we had to make several tough decisions ourselves. We wanted something relatable, yet memorable. And so, we brought in a character forced into a position where they would have to make more than menial decisions. Y’know, the sort of things most of us will experience at some point. Then we made a further decision to include a helpful character which we called ‘The Decisionator’, to help the learning stick. You can probably guess why.

Using a fun character to deliver key learning is just one way this course engages with learners. We created a mnemonic, ‘DO IT’, to help remember key points, and provided some extra blended learning in the form of takeaway tasks. These tasks help you reflect on times where you had to make important decisions, what happened, and why. There are also tasks to help you actively improve yourself which can be taken at your own pace.
