Introduction to First Aid

Emergency first aid is an essential skill that everyone should be proficient in. Many acute illnesses and injuries require immediate care. In an emergency there is often little to no time to read first aid instructions. This course will give you the basic knowledge you need to care for someone in a life-threatening position, so you can give them the best chance of survival until they receive medical assistance.

What you will learn

This course will aim to help you use the recovery position to protect life without causing accidental injury to the victim. Upon completing the course, you’ll be able to recognise the process for completing primary ABC checks correctly and safely for you and the victim. You’ll also be able to demonstrate an understanding of the safe and effective use of CPR so you will be able to better preserve life. Inside, you’ll find ways to react effectively to 9 first aid situations and explain ways to deal with incidents which might save lives. These include anaphylaxis, choking, drowning, heart attacks, and strokes.

About this course

Ever heard of ‘optimism bias’? It’s that little voice in your head telling you that nothing bad could ever possibly happen to you, only the spur-of-the-moment-adrenaline-junkies. But first aid is more important to you than you may believe.

For unfortunate occurrences such as burns, shock, allergic reactions, or choking, first aid is the difference between a narrow escape and the death of someone you just didn’t know how to help. Luckily, this course will make you aware of what to do in those situations, including identifying different incidents, the procedures, and what not to do.

Engaging the learner

As this is one of our flagship, IOSH approved courses, we decided to use a new style, with a mixture of storybook drawing and exquisite animation to engage every learner. Each important subject is divided into a separate, standalone section to keep things simple. These are laid out as a set of safety posters which the learner can work their way through at their own pace.

Because we want learners to remember the advice in this course, there are interactive sections, with questions to be answered or tasks to perform. Finally, learners are tested on their understanding with a rotating question bank at the end of the course.

Peace of mind with testing

This course also has an assessment at the end which allows learners to test their understanding and helps businesses demonstrate a level of competence in the topic.

With a bank of questions learners will get randomised assessments which means if people do fail the assessment, they aren't faced with the same quiz again; after all you want to test learners knowledge and not their ability to remember the right button to press second time around.
