About this course

When an entrepreneur launches a successful new idea, it’s easy to put their achievement down to luck. After all, they had the right idea at the right time and the resources to make it happen. But they also had to work hard and take calculated risks to catch that break. It’s important to acknowledge that those who have privilege are often granted more opportunities than those who don’t. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t steps we can all take to increase our chances of success.

Ernest Hemingway famously said, ‘You make your own luck’. Maybe that’s true.
You don’t need to rush out and purchase a lucky charm to be successful. And if you lack privilege, it doesn’t automatically mean you can’t catch a break. There are changes you can make to your attitude and your approach to work and life that can help you to create your own luck. This course is here to explain what they are.

Engaging the learner

While researching this course, we started to notice just how often we put things down to luck alone, when talking about sporting achievements. This was particularly true for those of us who spend more time watching sport than training to do it. So, we settled on sailing as a theme for this course, because it allowed us to explore how luck often has a part to play in success but isn’t necessarily the whole story.

This course uses stunning animation to create a visually compelling world for the learning to unfold within. It follows a relatable character, a guy with a dream, who overcomes hurdles and takes the risks necessary to create his own luck. There is extensive blended learning embedded in the course, to give you the opportunity to learn by experiencing making different choices that can increase or limit the likelihood of success. We’ve also included some useful, downloadable takeaway tasks for you to complete in your own time. These combine reflective and active tasks, so you can consolidate your learning and start to put all that new knowledge to good use. Lucky you!
