Turn Off Work Thoughts During Free Time

It’s tempting to pick up that work email when you’re outside of the office, even just to ‘set your mind at rest’. But learning to rest and relax outside of work is important for both physical and mental well-being. It’s also essential if you want to perform well in your role. That makes this course useful for everyone. So, mute your notifications and learn how to switch those work thoughts off to make your free time really count.

What you will learn

This course will help you to understand why people struggle to turn off work thoughts during their free time. It will allow you to recognise why boundaries between work and leisure time are so important and teach you some handy strategies to help you transition from work mode and avoid rumination.

About this course

Whatever your role, your job probably occupies a significant amount of your time. And being busy and stimulated while at work is certainly no bad thing. But if you find yourself worrying about work when the working day is over, it could be time to think about proactively reclaiming your downtime.

Your brain is a muscle, and rest is an important part of making sure it performs to the best of its abilities. If you’re constantly thinking about work, you’ll struggle to be present and enjoy time spent with family and friends. So, if you don’t actively work on maintaining clear boundaries between your work and leisure time, you could end up exhausted, burnt out, and struggling to maintain healthy and enjoyable relationships.

Engaging the learner

We’re well aware that this is a topic that many people, ourselves included, have dealt with at some point. It’s why we’ve chosen to show someone struggling in the same way so many of us have as this course progresses. You’ll see our hero missing out on time with friends, struggling to sleep and other relatable struggles. But you're also going to see them change things up and learn to turn off those work thoughts at the end of the day. Because making this change really is totally possible and we want you to really feel that.

This course uses fantastic animation to engage you as you learn. We’ve included a multiple-choice question part way through the course, designed to challenge and develop your existing approach to turning off work thoughts at the end of the working day. We’ve also created some helpful takeaway tasks, for you to download and complete in your own time. These will help you to reflect on past patterns of behaviour and to actively start applying what you’ve learned, so you too can be eating pizza with your mates instead of freaking out about deadlines on a Friday night.
